August 18, 2022

ALGIERS- Minister of Pharmaceutical Industry, Abderrahmane Djamel Lotfi Benbahmed, received Ethiopian Ambassador to Algeria, Assagid Nebiat Getachew, with whom he discussed the need to promote and encourage bilateral partnership in the field of the pharmaceutical industry through the creation of mixed industrial poles.

According to a press release from the ministry, this meeting, held on Tuesday, is part of the “strengthening of bilateral Algerian-Ethiopian relations and the common will expressed by the President of the Republic Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune to promote bilateral economic cooperation”.

In this context, the exchanges focused on “the need to promote and encourage bilateral partnership in the field of the pharmaceutical industry through the creation of mixed industrial poles for the co-development of drugs between the various producers with a view to fostering the development of a complementary and integrated African pharmaceutical industry,” the statement added.

To do so, the two parties have expressed their determination to organize a fair dedicated to the Algerian pharmaceutical industry in Addis Ababa allowing the various operators and investors to better discover the Ethiopian market and inquire about the multiple business opportunities in terms of the production, distribution as well as the export of pharmaceutical products both regionally and continentally.

The two parties also undertook “to facilitate and intensify contact and exchanges between the various operators and investors of the two countries thanks to the launch of the direct air line between Algiers and Addis Ababa”, which will allow , according to the ministry, “to stimulate a new dynamic in trade, particularly in the field of the pharmaceutical industry and to raise the economic partnership to the height of the historic friendships that bind the two countries”.
